What is social media?
social media is when you communicate with people online. The example of social media are:

why is social media so important?
Its important because its a way of promoting yourself and also it gives you bigger opportunities of getting better people that will work with you e.g. photographers, makeup artists, hairdresser and a director.
Week 1- For the first week I
brought a royal blue fabric that was light weight; I chose that colour for the
top because it matched the colour of the body of the peacock and also I wanted
the fabric to be light weight because that fabric would suit for making a baggy
bodice. Cut out my pattern for the bodice which included the darts and the
fitting of that bodice and then sketched that pattern onto my fabric; I then
cut my fabric according to that pattern. I cut that fabric from the front first
which had a slight different cutting to the back because the back is open and
has less fabric to the front. In my opinion I did a good job in cutting that
garment because it was my first cutting a bodice and also I like the way it
baggy and not skin tight.
Week 2- on
the second week I sewed my bodice starting of the top dart which gave my bodice
baggy look and then sewed it from the shoulders and then from the fitting.
After doing that I took the blue thread and sewed the hems and the neck of the
bodice. The size of that garment is quite small because I want a model that is
smart fitted. In my opinion this bodice is sewn well because I got the type of
look that I wanted from it.
Week 3- The
third week I brought a dark green netted fabric that will trail on the back of
the dress I wanted that dress to be dark green because the outer feathers of a
peacock are dark green. The fabric that I brought was netted because it doesn’t
have much weight and would float when it’s worn, the style of that I want from
that garment is princess like because I also made a shirt that is made out of
several pieces that are in shape of leaves because it links back to the shape
of peacock feathers that are on her body, those leaves have one palette in the
middle of them because I wanted to make it look more 3D. The colours that skirt
are gold and blue because the blue colour links back to the peacock and the
gold is royal colour that is mostly worn by princess. In my opinion the skirt
that I made was really
Week 4 – The
forth week of my making I cut out the patterns for the back of my dress they
were cut in the shape of feathers that are placed on the back of the peacock.
To make the feathers I used the silk because it has a shine to it and also it
has a royal like look to it. The compositions of the feathers links back to the
feathers of the peacock that are on the body because they are layered are
layered on top of each other the same way. In my opinion the feathers that I made
on Monday were really untidy because they had treads coming of the fabric and
also because some of the feathers were out of shape.

Artist Research
Matthew Williamson
Matthew Williamson is a designer who was born in Manchester, Charlton
on 23rd October 1971. He started to study at central Saint Martin
College in London at the age of 17. After three he graduated with a BA in
fashion design and print textile. Matthew is a designer who had previously
worked at marni the British company monsoon and accessorize, but he founded his
house with CEO Joseph velosa. This designer uses a lot of vibrant colours
within his work because his first collection ‘electric angels’ in September
1992 that featured bias cut dresses that had vibrant shades of hot pink,
magenta, and bright orange. But for 2000 spring his work showed a gypsy
inspired look that had printed dresses and sari tops that had magenta, purple
and red. This designer has also designed a green wedding dress foe the singer
Kelis. The dress had a classy shape which featured a full skirt that was had
embroidery around the waist and lace up corset inspired back that had varying
shades of green. For 2012 Matthew celebrated his 15th anniversary
that collection featured a slightly futuristic, coolly coloured cocktail
dresses and evening gowns. His cocktail dresses featured a grey, turquoise and
dark blue with accents of neon yellow. The evening pieces had tighter prints of
with grand washes of colours on floated, floor length skirts.
My work also includes various types of vibrant colours but
they are not as eye-catching or attractive as Matthews because I really like
the way he’s mixed two bright colours and then designed them with bold floral
patterns. I will take the inspiration of Matthew work and mix different type
bright colours to my work.
Alexandra McQueen
Alexandra Macqueen is a fashion
designer that was born in London on the 17th march 1969; he
graduated from the London central Saint Martin’s college. His qualification
from that college brought him to Isabella blow the British vogue editor who
helped him in his career. Alexandra in his first collection designed clothes
that have showed inspired from historical dresses that included corsets and
Victorian dresses that were slashed down and manipulated. His main purpose of
designing was to show that women are equal to men in sexuality.
My work also included various types
of clothes that were inspired from the historical days as full length skirts
that trail and puffy arms. In my opinion the work of Alexandra Macqueen is much
more artistic and inspirational that’s because his designs has dresses that are
less fabric than Victorians did and also it includes excellent tailoring
skills. Alexandra normally designs garments that have meaning behind it so I
would improve my work by setting a meaning it.
John Galliano
John Galliano is a British fashion designer who was born in
Gibraltar to a Spanish mother and Gibraltar farther. John attended city and
east London College to study printed textile he then later graduated from
central martin college and while he was studying he works in as a dresser in
the national theatre. John uses various type of blue, grey and turquoise, his
work is mostly done by the material silk that is exaggerated with the use of
fabric that give this garment a puffy
look.
My work also has garment that I might make of silk and also
use the colour dark blue in my opinion the way john uses silk on his work makes
looks interesting and appealing.
Elsa Schiaparelli
Elsa Schiaparelli is a Italian fashion designer that was born
in palazzo Corsini, in Rome on the 10th September 1890. She has
studied philosophy at the University of Rome. Elsa Schiaparelli her own fashion
house that focuses on the knitwear, daywear and simple blouses, Elsa
Schiaparelli is simple but has metaphorical meanings behind it. In my opinion
my work should have meanings behind it because her work is artistic because it
can be explored.
Vivienne Westwood
Vivienne Westwood is a British fashion designer that was born
in April 8th 1941 in Glossop, England. Vivienne Westwood met Malcolm
MacLean who later becomes the manager of punk ground the sex pistol. Then opens a shop a shop that
sells Teddy boy clothing, he also put together vintage clothes pieces made
patterns then created copies. She held her first collection in 1981 which is called
pirate collection. I like the way she customises clothes and uses and uses lots
of fabric to exaggerate it. In my opinion the designs that I made were not exaggerated
enough for a catwalk with the inspiration of Vivienne work I would like to
exaggerate my designs.

Kate is 16 and she listens to music that is pop and R ‘n’ B
She wears whatever that is in trend
Doesn’t really have a celebrity that inspires her but she
likes mostly what Rihanna wears.
She doesn’t really find any other clothing extreme but Goths
Her education doesn’t affect the way she dresses
Religion doesn’t affect the way she dresses
If she had a chance to dress the way they did in the past
then she was would dress like the 90’s
Interview with Dave
Dave is 35 years old and he was in in youth in the 90’s he
went to university but that didn’t affect the way he dressed. He at that time
listened to house music but he is not sure about the way he danced but he
thinks it called Rave. Dave didn’t follow a religion but past family was Christian
and that didn’t affect the way he dressed. Dave mostly wore denim jeans with
polo shirts or t shirts he also went out in the weekends but wore the same
style clothes to the weekend parties.
The fashion has changed
over the years for example the decade 1990 is completely different to the
present that is because the 90s there was mostly denim was around and now the
garment are mostly inspired from the vintage decades. The other thing that
could be the reason for the fashion to change is that music has changed youth
nowadays days listen to the type of music that they dress as for example gothic
people listen to rock.
Christian Dior's background information
Christian Dior was born in 19005 in a place small place called French coastal town of Granville. He was the son of a wealthy man who worked as a fertilizer manufacture. Christian family had high hopes for him to become a diplomat however Dior was artistic and when he left school in 1928. He received money from his father to open a small art gallery. His gallery sold art by the likes of Pablo Picasso but after a financial blow his father lost control of his company and the young Dior was forced to close his gallery.
From the 1930s to the early 1940s Dior worked with the designer Robert Piguet, until he was enlisted into the army. Having left the army in 1942 Dior joined Lucien Lelong where he and Pierre Balmain were the primary designers. For the duration of the war Lelong dressed the wives of Nazi officers and French collaborators, as did the other Paris based ateliers that remained open during the occupation. While her brother dressed Nazi consorts, Dior’s sister Catherine served in the French resistance. After her capture by the Gestapo, Catherine was sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp. She survived the ordeal and was freed in 1945. The first Dior fragrance was dedicated to her.
Dior founded his haute couture empire in 1946 at 30 Avenue Montaigne Paris which was backed by wealthy French businessman Marcel Boussac. Christian with him established a company with a capital of FFr 6million and an 80 strong workforce.
Christian Dior’s look was so shocking look was his signature
look that is because all of his dresses were below half calf length from the
front and they were full length at the back. They had a much fuller bust and
small cinched waist the dresses he designed needed at least 20 yards of fabric
to make. This new look also had employed hidden techniques to give its
trademark curvaceous silhouette, dresses were lined with percale, bodices were
boned in rigid bustier style and hips were padded and waists were minimised
with a waspie corset.

What effects fashion?
Fashion can be a very powerful thing mostly people
use clothing to express their feelings, and what they like. Another effect of
fashion is trends they can come from almost anywhere, some start with a
designer having a new idea or bringing back an old one. Trends can be so
unpredictable, that some larger company's hire people to predict what trends
there might be in up to a year in advance. But other reasons can be:
· Music for
example Marilyn Monroe inspired most women that were housewives the glamour and
the beauty she had.
· Politics for
example the hippies started their own fashion and style because they were not
satisfied with some of the laws that were around at that time.
· Poverty for
example the punk fashion started from the rebellious teenagers that were from
the poorer parts of England.
· Immigration
for example when people from all over the world came to England then that
inspired fashion to change because people mostly wore cultural clothes.
Difference Between High End Fashion
and High Street Fashion
High end
fashion is much more exaggerated than high street fashion that is because in
high end they use various types of techniques and materials such as palettes,
gathering, buttons, pockets etc. and the materials that they use can be
anything from paper, plastic, metal, silk, cotton etc. The high end fashion is
also very different because most of the time when a garment is designed is not
always washable and it can only be suitable for wearing on special occasions or
catwalks. The other thing that differs is the price of the high end garments
can be very expensive and some people may not be able to afford them and also
the high end garment are one off and the high street fashion is mostly batch
made.
The
high street fashion is very simple compared to high end fashion because it very
simple and doesn’t include that much techniques. They mostly focus on the print
of the garment that is because those garments are mostly made in as a batch and
it would be really difficult to make them garments if they have various types
of techniques within them. The other thing that is different is that they are
really cheap compared to high end that is so that it is affordable for people
to buy. The high street fashion is also made with materials that are washable
and are comfortable to wear in your everyday life.
Overall the both of the fashions are very different
to each other because their purposes are different. The high street
fashion is made so that it is simple and easy to make but high end fashion
is made so that it catches attention and it is very hard to make
if you were to make it as batch collection.
What are a block/ pattern/ toile and sample?

A pattern is a marking that is used to make the
garment for example the waist; bust will have their own marking that will be
drawn on to the fabric and sewn.
·
Toile is a piece of fabric that you practice
your sewing and design on.
Are certain fabrics more suited to certain
garments?
Yes, there are certain fabrics that are used for
pacific purposes for example stretchy fabric that has elastin within it would
be usually used for garments like leggings, tops and other garment that are
meant to be skin tight, but on the other hand that same fabric will not be
suitable for garments coats, jumpers because it not hard wearing and also it
will not keep you warm.
Cutting on the fold is when
you cut a fabric while it is folded
S.A means seam allowance and that is when you leave 1.5cm of fabric on the
garment for sewing on.
H.A means hem allowance and that is when you leave 3cm fabric of a garment
for the edges for example at the end of sleeves.
C.F means Centre front and that is the front of the garment on the Centre
C.B means Centre back and that is the back of the garment on the Centre
This is a mood board that I designed using Photoshop within this mood board I have researched images that link to my theme which is piousness peacock princess. The images that I have taken are of peacocks and acrobats that are wearing garments that are similar to my theme. In my opinion this mood board has some good images that link to my theme, but there are some images that are dull and boring.
This slideshow was created as a group and then we presented this slideshow to the whole class after presenting this slide the different groups in our class peer assessed our slideshow from that peers assessment we found out that we need to improve the length of our slideshow, and also decrease the amount of times we say 'like' and 'stuff'. But on the other hand our class also gave us some positive feedback and that included that we had a wide range of information on different acts that they performed on the circuses.

part of my secondary research and the reason why this image
was chosen because in my opinion the colours on this costume are really
attractive and eye catching and also the design of this costume is really appealing
because its skin tight with famine colours like shocking pink and also it has print within this garment such as the zebra print that are mostly used on female garments. the overall reason why really like this garment is because this made to give this garment a drag queen look.
This is a another picture that I found as part of my secondary
research I really like this picture because it has attractive colours
within it and also it is has accessories such as the head piece that give
this garment that royal creative look and also this picture inspires me to make
a garment because it links back to the theme which is piousness peacock
princess.
This image was chosen because in my opinion the makeup
that has been applied on these models is really attractive and dreamy
that is because they blended in with each other and are applied very neatly
and also the colours that have been used are also very eye
catching and appealing.
This image is a part of my secondary research this image was chosen because in my opinion the garment that the model are very imaginative because it has got painting on this garment that is finely drawn with swirls that give this picture a imaginative look. The other reason why this image was chosen because the make up that has been worn this model is very appropriate and suits the garment.

that have been used on this garment are very attractive and eye catching.
